IIT Madras develops new mobile Operating System BharOS : Details

IIT Madras director holds press conferance and launches new operating system BharOS

IIT Madras recently conducted a presentation where they unveiled BharOS, a new mobile operating system with a privacy and security focus. The OS is created by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops), an IIT Madras-founded  Company. A highly clean derivative of AOSP, BharOS offers a number of security and privacy features.

For instance, the OS doesn't come with any pre-installed default programmes. Users are able to select only the programmes they require and are confident in thanks to this. Access to the PASS secret app store service is also made available by BharOS. It appears to be filled with carefully chosen apps that have been confirmed to meet the privacy and security requirements of organisations.

BharOS will be made available to companies and organisations with sensitive information and particular security needs. It appears that BharOS will also receive native over-the-air updates. However, it is unclear which Android core version it will have.

Prof V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said : “BharOS Service is a Mobile OS built on a foundation of trust, with a focus on providing users more freedom, control and flexibility to choose and use only the apps that fit their needs. This innovative system promises to revolutionise the way users think about security and privacy on their mobile devices. IIT Madras looks forward to working closely with many more private industries, Government agencies, Strategic agencies and Telecom Service Providers to increase the usage and adoption of BharOS in our Country.”
